GuidBenchBY SMARTFACT

FREE GUID AND UUID GENERATOR

Check a UUID’s format

Updated

UUID validation checks whether a value has a recognised UUID structure. GuidBench identifies its version and variant, recognises supported text forms and finds repeated canonical values in the list you supply.

Free to use. No account, email address or trial. Your identifiers stay in your browser.

UUID inspection identifies a repeated canonical value.
Different text presentation can represent the same UUID.

Recognise supported UUID text

Choose Inspect in the workbench. Supply canonical hyphenated, compact, braced or UUID URN text. The result reports recognised structure, version and variant, rather than treating every identifier-like string as a UUID.

A compact UUID inspected without adding hyphens by hand.
Compact and hyphenated text can describe the same value.

Find repeated values across text forms

Compare a list of up to 1,000 entries and 100,000 input characters. Repeated canonical UUID values are identified even when their presentation differs. This checks only your supplied list.

A duplicate canonical UUID reported in the supplied list.
A list check cannot establish global uniqueness.

Read a refusal before using the value

Spaces are reported rather than silently removed. A malformed value or an ordinary order reference must not be treated as a valid UUID. Base64, ULID and Nano ID are not decoded or validated by this inspector.

An order reference refused as UUID text.
A useful refusal prevents a different kind of value being mistaken for a UUID.

Structure is only one check

Recognised structure does not establish database existence, origin, secure generation or suitability for a particular application. A UUID v7 timestamp describes encoded data and is not proof that an event happened at that time.

MADE FOR DEVELOPERS AND INTEGRATORS

For developers, integrators and people checking exact values before using them in another system.

A USEFUL STARTING POINT

Check what arrived before using it

Two presentations can refer to one UUID, while a familiar business reference may not be a UUID at all. Inspect the original text and review the result before treating it as a separate record key.

FROM QUESTION TO EVIDENCE

Three steps to a useful result.

  1. 01

    Open Inspect

Open the workbench and choose Inspect.

  2. 02

    Supply the text

Paste the UUID or list exactly as received.

  3. 03

    Review

Read structure, version, variant and repeated-value results before reuse.

A CONCRETE EXAMPLE

One value written two ways

A UUID in compact text and the same UUID with hyphens can be reported as a repeated canonical value. Two different strings do not always mean two different identifiers.

WHEN IDENTIFIERS JOIN YOUR WORKFLOW

Give identifiers a useful job.

GuidBench creates identifiers when you ask. These SmartFACT products help with the records and labels that use them.

LabelRules

LabelRules turns label requirements described in plain English into approved rules that select and check labels for each job. It starts with an invited trial.

BEFORE YOU START

A few practical answers.

Does valid structure prove uniqueness?

No. It also does not prove secure generation, origin or suitability.

Does this prove that a record exists?

No. No database or external service is queried.

Are spaces removed automatically?

No. Check the reported issue and correct your source deliberately.

Can I inspect Base64?

No. The inspector accepts supported UUID text forms and gives explanatory hints for possible other formats.

What are the current limits?

The generator supports UUID v4 and v7, ULID and Nano ID, not every UUID version. Nano ID length is 8 to 64 characters. UUID v7 uses a fresh random suffix for every ID by default, with no guaranteed order inside a millisecond. Its optional sequential mode keeps one timestamp and increments a random starting suffix across the whole set; each Generate starts a fresh set, with no guaranteed order between sets. ULID retains order within one tab, not across devices or tabs. UUID structure checks do not prove uniqueness, origin, secure generation or application suitability. The inspector accepts canonical, compact, braced and UUID URN text, with a maximum of 100,000 characters. It does not silently remove spaces or decode Base64. A compact UUID is 32 hexadecimal digits without hyphens; Nano ID and ULID are separate identifier formats. Possible other formats get explanatory hints, not a UUID validation result. Identifiers are not passwords or access tokens.

What happens to my data?

Generated identifiers and inspector input stay in this tab’s memory. Refreshing or closing the tab discards them. Copy writes to your clipboard; download creates a local file. The tool has no analytics or saved identifier history. These public pages offer optional analytics separately, under Analytics settings. Ordinary page and catalogue requests may be logged by the hosting provider. No identifier is placed in a URL or sent to SmartFACT.
